Why choose Routes for care in Kirklees & Huddersfield?

We've been supporting families across the North of England since 2009. Our team, based in Kirklees, serves families across Huddersfield and surrounding areas. The team knows the area, understands the local healthcare services, and brings the clinical expertise you'd expect from a CQC regulated provider.

Supporting Your Independence

We're here to help you stay independent in your own home: making your own choices, retaining your usual routines, and living life your way. Our home care focuses on keeping you as independent as possible, with you involved in every decision.

Experienced Care Team

Our local carers are trained to support you with everything from personal care to medication reminders. All our carers are directly employed and fully vetted to give you peace of mind.

Transparent & Trustworthy

Clear pricing for your home care service -  no hidden fees. We're straightforward about what your care involves and what it costs. You'll always know where you stand with us.

How We Work with Your Family

We don't show up with a pre-written care plan. Every family is different, every situation is different. Here's how we figure out what would actually help support your loved one - beginning with the very first conversation.

1. Have a chat with us

Ring our enquiry team for a conversation about what's happening and whether home care could help.

If you need care urgently, we can usually arrange an assessment within 24-48 hours across Kirklees and Huddersfield, to get you the care you need without delay.

2. We visit for a free assessment

A member from our local team will visit you at your home (or your loved ones home). The care assessment takes about 30 minutes to an hour, and it's more of a two-sided conversation, not a sales pitch from us!

During your care assessment, we'll talk about:

  • What help your loved one needs right now
  • What matters most to them about staying at home
  • What would give you peace of mind as a family
  • Home care options that might work - visiting care, live-in care, maybe respite

If you decide home care isn't right after talking it through, that's perfectly fine. What matters most is that your loved one get the support that's right for them.

3. We create your care plan together

Based on what we've discussed, our team puts together a care plan that fits your situation. This covers:

  • When care happens (morning visits, lunchtime support, evening settling, overnight, or 24/7 live-in)
  • What each visit includes (personal care, medication reminders, meals, companionship)
  • Which Knutsford carer we're matching to your loved one (we think about personalities, not just skills)
  • How we'll work with your local GP and healthcare teams
  • Emergency contacts and what to do if something changes

You're involved in all of this: this is about working together to put a care plan in place that is based on what your loved one prefers.

3. Care Begins When You're Ready

Some families want care to start immediately. Others prefer a few days to think it through. We work to your timescale. Once home care starts:

  • We stay in regular contact
  • If something's not working, tell us and we'll adjust it
  • If your loved one's needs change, we change the care plan
  • You can call our office directly when you're worried about something

We know needs can change. Sometimes people need more support, sometimes less. We adapt as you go.

Care That Truly Feels Like Home

Our Kirklees team isn't just professionally trained; they're genuinely caring people who understand how significant this step feels for you and your family. We know that choosing care takes courage, and we're here to make that journey feel right.

Heartfelt

We genuinely care about the people we supports. Our carers take time to understand your story, notice when you're having a difficult day, and celebrate the good moments alongside you. This isn't just professional care - it's personal connection.

Open

We believe the best care comes from really listening to you and working together. When you share your concerns, preferences, or worries with us, we take them seriously and adjust how we support you. Open communication helps us understand what's working well and what needs to change.

Meaningful

We focus on the moments and experiences that truly matter to your wellbeing and happiness. Whether it's sharing a cup of tea, enjoying familiar conversations, or simply being there when you need support, we understand that meaningful care comes from genuine human connection.

Empowering

We believe you should remain in control of your life, your choices, and your daily routines. Our role is to provide support that enables your independence rather than replacing it. We work alongside you to help you live the life you choose in your own home.

KIRKLEES & HUDDERSFIELD HOME CARE FAQ

Questions families ask us

How much does home care cost in Kirklees & Huddersfield?

Our home care rates begin at £28 per hour across Kirklees and Huddersfield. We don't add setup fees or administration charges.

Your total cost depends on what help you need and visit frequency. Personal care support has different pricing to companionship care, and round-the-clock live-in care is structured differently again.

We'll talk through pricing clearly during your home assessment. You'll get straightforward costs with nothing hidden, so you can make an informed decision before care begins.

Will I be tied into a contract for home care?

No, we don't tie families into long-term contracts.

You might need us for a couple of weeks while recovering from hospital, a month to give yourself a break, or ongoing support for years. It's your call. Change your care package or stop whenever you need to - there's no penalty or notice period.

What areas of Kirklees & Huddersfield do you cover?

We cover Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Batley, Brighouse, Holmfirth, and the wider Kirklees area, including the Holme Valley, Colne Valley, Spen Valley, and surrounding villages.

Our Kirklees team is based in Brighouse, so we're well-placed to reach families quickly across HD1, HD2, HD3, HD4, HD5, HD6, HD7, HD8, HD9, WF12, WF13, WF14, WF15, WF16, and WF17 postcodes

Not sure if we cover your area? Give us a ring on 0333 800 1379.

How soon can home care begin?

Usually within a week for planned care. We'll arrange your assessment, create your care plan, and introduce your carers.

For urgent situations (unexpected hospital discharge, a sudden fall, or existing care falling through), we can often have someone with you within 24-48 hours across Kirklees and Huddersfield.

Can you support someone with dementia?

Yes, we provide specialist training for dementia care to our care assistants. They're trained in person-centred dementia support - understanding communication when words become difficult, responding calmly to distressed behaviour, and creating routines that bring reassurance.

We'll talk to you and your family about what works, what doesn't, and how we can support your loved one in ways that maintain dignity and comfort.

Can you help with hospital discharge?

Yes. We work closely with hospitals across Kirklees and Huddersfield to arrange home care quickly when someone's ready to leave hospital.

If your loved one is being discharged and needs support at home, we can often arrange an assessment and get care started within 24-48 hours. We'll coordinate with hospital discharge teams and your GP to make sure the transition home is as smooth as possible.
